The activity of karaoke involves singing along to a recorded song while watching the lyrics appear on a screen. It was created in Japan in the 1970s and spread fast over the world. A Japanese musician named Daisuke Inoue created the first karaoke machine in 1971. The “8 Juke” was a straightforward cassette player with a coin box attached. The concept was that without a live band, customers may pay to sing along to their preferred tunes. In Japan, The 8 Juke was a great hit, and karaoke quickly became a popular pastime.

Digital technology transformed the karaoke business in the 1990s. With the ability to hold hundreds of songs on a single device, karaoke singing machines become more accessible and adaptable. A Korean business called Daiichikosho created the first digital karaoke system in 1989. It stored the music on laser discs and showed the lyrics on a video screen. When built-in screens for lyrics and music videos grew more common in the early 2000s, karaoke singing machines evolved even further. Some devices could even record performances and preserve them so they could be shared online or recorded onto a CD.
With new versions being produced each year, karaoke singing machines are now more popular than ever. Modern singing machines use cutting-edge technologies like auto-tuning and voice enhancements to improve the singing experience and are usually paired with a Bluetooth ready device like your phone or tablet. It comes with no surprise for Supreme to jump into the world of karaoke machines by releasing a limited edition Singing Machine Karaoke machine during their spring/summer 2023 season. This collaboration with Singing Machine fully coloured in red, features Supreme’s iconic “Sup” logo across the front, Bluetooth connectivity, a 8” woofer and 3” tweeter and two microphones with the Supreme logo on it. A rechargeable battery will last for 25+ hours. The release is set to Week 3, March 9th on supreme.com and their physical stores around the globe. Make sure to check out the full droplist which includes a new The North Face collaboration.
