Mario has been an icon in video games for over 35 year. His characteristic style includes a red cap and blue overalls, but let’s not forget his sturdy work boots. These shoes may appear insignificant, but they are crucial to Mario’s success as he leaps and stomps around the Mushroom Kingdom.
In celebration of the recently released Super Mario Bros. film, Nintendo and Illumination have collaborated with Red Wing Shoes to build a prototype of Mario’s iconic boots. Master craftsmen from The Red Wing collaborated closely with the film’s creative team to ensure that every pixel on-screen was correctly converted into a physical thread.
The boots are composed of tough, natural leather and have slip-resistant treads, making them ideal for Mario as he navigates difficult stages and battles a variety of enemies. The boots’ mushroom-based, mycelium insoles provide Mario with a welcome boost to help him battle Bowser and his army.
It is simple to see why Mario’s escapades require a sturdy pair of work boots. Whether he is leaping to the tops of flagpoles, dashing across huge distances, or beating a variety of foes, he is never without his faithful boots. And now, due to the prototype developed by Red Wing Shoes, Super Mario Bros. fans can have a closer look at these boots in person. The Shoes are not for sale.
