Who is Trevor Gorji? What is Fugazi?
Trevor Gorji is a fashion designer who has made a name for himself in the industry with his innovative and unique clothing brand, Fugazi. Before launching Fugazi and North Korea Skate Team, he had established Paradox Supply Co. in 2012, which focused on skatewear featuring graphics on hats, tees, and hoodies. However, Fugazi has been Gorji’s most successful brand, renowned for its commitment to detail, skate workwear, and street fashion.
If you don’t know Fugazi for their clothing you might know them for their shoes back at the starting years. Fugazi’s footwear, including the Fugazi One in the Chambers and Fugazi Slug Shoes, have caught the attention of many sneaker enthusiasts, including Drake wearing the One in the Chambers in Gunmetal Grey although he is affiliated with Nike. Still up to this date Fugazi puts out great and creative shoes but has moved since from the so said “Nike customs”.
Collection “Leviticus”
Gorji has delivered great pieces on all of his three previous collections, starting with the First collection “Leviticus” in 2020. This collection included a Static Camo Knit Sweater and Technician Work Pants, Shorts, and a zipper hoodie coming in full black with red leather fugazi details, all with technical pockets over the garment. The 18k white gold plated .925 sterling silver Hand & Dagger Necklace was also a popular item which became one of the iconic Fugazi logos in later collections.
Collection “Icarus”
Collection two “Icarus” already consisted of more items but still kept a black, red, grey color theme. Gorji introduced the Triple Stitch Jeans, Paisley Knit Cardigan, and the first colorway of the Bullseye weekender bag in red. A hand & dagger necklace, this time in gold, and Farsi Socks featured “Fugazi” written in Persian on the socks (فوگازی). But one standout piece was the Fugazi Posse corduroy hat, which draws inspiration from Bushwick Bill from Geto Boys wearing the 5TH WARD Posse cap. The same hat style was used in 2008 by Supreme releasing a ’94 SUPREME Posse cap in multiple colorways. Fugazi released the hat first in red and later in grey and black.
Collaborations with Absent & Unsound
Between collection two and three, Fugazi also put out great collaborations. One with Absent USA following a black, blue, and white color scheme, including a monogram quilted jacket, double knee work pants, and leather cardholder featuring a monogram of Absent’s logo with the famous Fugazi dagger. As usual, jewelry, a ring, and a pendant, were part of the collection as well. Followed by a collab with Unsound rags, the main items were a Concrete Trompe-l’œil double knee work pant and work jacket, and of course, a bracelet and chain with metal blocks spelling out UNSOUND / FUGAZI.
Collection “Veblen”
The third collection called “Veblen” included Fugazi’s first pop-up store in LA. The collection was held in a more greenish and earthy-colored selection. A set of Realtree Sniper Camo Double Knee Work Pants, a 6-panel hat with downward spiral stitching instead of the normal vertical, the previously seen farsi logo on a pendant, and a thick farsi knit jacket, plus a Diamond Tester branded with fugazi were part of the previewed items too. The collection was split into three deliveries.
On the second delivery, they opened a popup store in New York, and the items followed the same color choice. Sniper Camo Puffer Jackets featuring front buckle closures and a ninja sherpa which had an S-swirl formed zipper instead of the usual vertical one. Also don’t forget the leather goods in form of card holders.
The third Veblen delivery included less items. One of my favourites was the Random Snap Shimmer Tweed Overshirt, which the tweed was built with many different yarns.
Mocking Nikes Lawsuits
A little later, Trevor Gorji released a god level marketing video that shows him interrogated by people asking him about shoes he put out, referencing all the lawsuits that happened to brands by Nike. The marketing video was for Fugazi’s new shoe, which is not only called Censored but also follows a censored design all over the shoe. If you followed Fugazi on their previous collections, you will also see on some pictures the shoes were censored, which all point to this shoe now. With S****, it’s clear this shoe is a reference to the Slug shoes Fugazi put out a long time ago but now in a censored version.
Collection “Peacemaker”
Fugazi’s newest and fourth collection is called “Peacemaker” and has a big range of items. The Super Duty Reversible Hoodies are great, with every detail just brilliantly executed, from the hexagon style world map print to the hexagon-shaped front pouch rivets and hood buttons. The Corporate Streetwear Challenge tee is another standout piece, featuring altered mocked brand logos on the back, such as Asleep instead of Awake (by Angelo Baque), or “Bith” instead of Kith. The Chain Splatter Jeans come in two denim hues, with paint splatters sewn in a chain stitch on the pants. The Peacemaker Necklaces are a beautiful piece of jewelry, made from old/white gold plated .925 sterling silver with enamel for the revolver grip.
One of my personal favourite from this collection is the Marc Hat, a brown 6-panel hat with gold/dark yellow FA stitching, inspired by the LV hat from the ex-designer at Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs. The hat released back in 2000. A different and newer version was done by Virgil Abloh later on.
There are many more items worth checking out, including Conglomerate Reversible Fleeces, tops, and more. It’s a great collection! The release for the Peacemaker collection is set for Wednesday 4/19/2023 9:00 AM PST / 12:00 PM EST on FUGAZI.LA and at a to be defined date at the temporary West Hollywood Store. It’s expected for the collection to be split in multiple drops again.
Gorji’s passion for fashion is evident in every collection. With each collection, Gorji raises the bar and sets the standard for the industry. It is exciting to see what Trevor Gorji and his team will come up with next, as they continue to push the boundaries of fashion and challenge the status quo. For anyone who loves skate culture and street fashion, Fugazi is a brand to watch out for.
